Hey Offset....

Yeah, I read that 27 needs to be disconnected and both 28 pins need to be grounded to the power supply.

Gonna give it a try.

48  Arcade and Pinball Discussions / Beginner's Help Corner / Blue Elf 412-in-1 hooked up to The Last Duel (Jamma) not working <- WORKING NOW! on: February 16, 2015, 08:08:14 pm
Hey dudes,

Just got a 412-1 Blue Elf and installed it in my "Last Duel".  Checked the pinout to verify and everything is hooked up right.  The Last Duel worked great...all controls worked fine.

Powered up the Blue Elf and get the splash screen, hit the S1 button to get to the config menu and it pops up just fine.  It is side ways on the screen.

Tried moving the joystick(s) and can't get the arrow to move, also tried player 1 button and nothing.

It seems like everything is working but the controls.  Checked pins as mention before and all looks good.

Any suggestions?
Thanks,
MK

SOLUTION:
Pin27 was to ground.  removed and grounded to power supply ground.

Works great now!!!!
49  Arcade and Pinball Discussions / Beginner's Help Corner / Re: Galaxian Buzzing noise from transformer(s). on: February 16, 2015, 04:00:58 pm
The marquee is completely missing and unplugged...so, that should be a non-issue.

Are there specific line filters per machine?  Fuse holders?  Just common stock?

Thanks,
MK
50  Arcade and Pinball Discussions / General Pinball Discussions / Re: Checkpoint DMD matrix display troubleshooting on: February 16, 2015, 02:26:07 pm
Update:

In the manual, it only shows 4 fuses in that location.  So F7 must be the F3 Fuse?  It checked out okay.

Here are my readings and what the power connector should be pushing out.

My reading    |  Factory Spec
-108vDC             -100vDC      < Is that bad?  8v more than required?
-96vDC               -98vDC        < Is that bad? 2v less than required?
+68vDC              +68vDC       < Good!
+12vDC              +12vDC        <Good!
+5vDC                +5vDC          <Good!

All others are grounds or key.

Okay,
Trying to figure out why my DMD won't even light up.

So far....
Replaced transistor R95 (suggested among others on the boards)  It did look a little fried.
Replaced capacitor C27 (looked a little fried or dirty)
Reflowed headers on Power supply connection
Add solder to some transistors that look like no solder was on one end. (strange)
Checked w/Multimeter the power cable.  All readings looked okay.

Now, I was going thru the manual and there is a .5A fuse for the display at F3.  Well, look at this pic!!!  The fuse holder is gone.  WTF?

Anyone know why its missing?

53  Arcade and Pinball Discussions / Beginner's Help Corner / Galaxian Buzzing noise from transformer(s). on: February 15, 2015, 10:10:51 pm
Got a working Galaxian that has a low/medium buzz coming from the transformer(s) at the bottom of the cabinet.  The game works fine, video and sound are normal.

There is a Green/Yellow and Yellow/Green wire running from the Noise filter, but it runs to a connector/clip that's not connected to anything.  I wonder if it clips to the monitor chassis?  The duel wires are clipped up by the interlock switch...but I don't think they go there?

The Marque light is gone, but the wires to it are temp. disconnected.
The Power cord looks like a cat/dog chewed on it about a dozen places.  I'm sure that's not good.

Any suggestions as to where to go from here?
Thanks,
MK
54  Arcade and Pinball Discussions / General Arcade and Video Game Discussions / Best Sites to shop for Arcade Parts/Supplies? on: February 15, 2015, 07:24:26 pm
How about a list of online places to purchase Arcade parts/supplies?  Maybe break list into sections somehow?

Here's what sites I've learned about from John's and KLOV site.

In no particular order:

*mikes arcade
*twisted
*therealbobroberts
*ebay
*radio shack
*jammaboards

Just off the top of my head....any others?  should we put them in categories or grouped together somehow? someway?

Thanks,
MK

That sounds good...restoring a Gottlieb cabinet myself...so always good to see some pointers.

Also, I haven't used it, but can Floetrol(sp?) be used with oil paints or is it just for latex.  It's added to paint for a smooth finish I think.  Never used it personally.

Nevermind...just looked it up...Latex paints only.

Thanks Retro...I'll let you know.

@ John....Duh, the bulb is missing from the marquee...so it might be working.

John - You also mentioned throwing a new Flyback and Cap Kit...I see Bob Roberts has that kit (deluxe) for $37.

What type of light bulb fits in these Mario Cabs?  It's not the standard 18" bulb.

Thanks,
MK
57  Arcade and Pinball Discussions / General Pinball Discussions / First Pinball - Free from my neighbor. I kid you not. on: February 10, 2015, 11:15:44 pm
Just picked this up from my neighbor who didn't know how to fix it or really had time to mess with it.  Even delivered for me to my front door.

Checkpoint by DataEast - Needs a DMD.
58  Arcade and Pinball Discussions / General Arcade and Video Game Discussions / Re: What could it be? Free pinball machine on: February 10, 2015, 10:41:27 pm
He does....His basement kicks A** too.  The guy that had the home built originally owned a company that built all the Cabela's and Bass Pro Shops.  So, guess what...the basement is finished just like the stores with a major kicka** bar.  Hand-Hewn timbers and support on the ceiling...its just freaking amazing.

I need to get him some serious beer/whiskey gift basket or something...damn.

On top of it, the whole theming is around Racing in Germany and has a painting of the Castle Neuschwanstein on the playfield and backboard.  I've been there and love Germany, Oktoberfest and Beer....so, this really is a special machine for me.

Besides a lot of little light bulbs out...(thinking of replacing w/LED's)...the score board seems like the big ticket item that is out.

These things are complicated compared to my arcade's....well, time to start learning how they tick.

Have a good night...hope I can sleep  Grin

Well, my neighbor gets the "Most Awesome Neighbor of the Century Award".

Here it is....the scoreboard, a light or two and a couple popups is all I can tell that's not working.

He even drove it down thru his field on the trailer to my house and delivered it.  Rob rocks!!!

Data East - Checkpoint w/Turbo Boost Circa 1990-1991?
60  Arcade and Pinball Discussions / General Arcade and Video Game Discussions / JROK? Is it happening? on: February 10, 2015, 07:45:40 pm
Okay...I read all about this JROK mod for Stargate/Defender/Joust....and another for Q*bert to allow for multi games that are similar.

Is this really happening?  Did the project end all of sudden?

Just curious.
Thanks,
MK
