I spent all day trying to fix the shitty sanwa 20I16DU monitor that is in the Karate champ. It took a while but I finally found a part on the board that was shorting out, turns out it is the PTC that controls the degaussing coil. I removed that and don't you know I got video now! But it looks like shit, I know I need a capkit but was wondering what other things I am probably going to need.

I have never seen something like this before nor could I find anything like this by searching.

I am totally getting rid of it after this monitor is working. I might go through the trouble and fixing the joysticks and doing a quick restore but the game is so boring.

I hear lots of people say they "like" this game. but how many of those people end up playing the game daily? Once I have the game working 100% I will play it for a bit and put it up for sale.

It's a classic, stop fighting it.  I feel the same way about though.

Give me Karate Champ over DK any day.

Cold beer+karate champ= good times. Roundhouse kicks to the face and back of the head, it can't get any better!

do you think that the red cut off on monitor is too high?  at the end of the video you can see how low red is bleeding into the black.  Does that game offer a monitor test screen?  A pic of that might help.

I have played with all of the drive/cutoff knobs and they make very slight changes as soon as I can get a cap kit I am going to do that and test the pots. I think the pots might be okay since they are doing something but something else is over driving the guns. I had a similar problem with a k4900 that was caused by super dry caps having a very high ESR.

You need to flip this game to someone who will truly treasure it.  You're not ready for it yet grasshopper.

Drive to ct.. go upstairs.. grab a free monitor off my front porch.
take the old monitor out and give it a Viking funeral.  put the new monitor in.
Problem solved.
