Hey everyone
For anyone who is interested, I wanted to post some progress pics for my Gyruss restore.  I've been taking my time working on it little by little since I picked it up last October/November.  Recently I spent quite a bit of time in the garage getting things done, though.
I replaced the control panel overlay, installed new buttons, and cleaned & lubed the monroe stick (back toward the end of April): 
http://i.imgur.com/usWOvJW.jpgOn the weekend of May 23rd, I finished repairing a 14" section of particle board that was missing under the t-molding (using Bondo), and I cut a new slot in the repaired section using a router that I borrowed from a friend.  I also finished sanding some areas (like where I filled in the holes from a previously installed security bar across the coin door.)  I finished up painting the front (including the areas repaired with Bondo) and installed the new t-molding.  I sanded and painted the coin door using a RustOleum "hammer finish" paint & primer in one.  I re-assembled the coin door last night and put it back in the game.  Snapped a quick picture this morning on my way out the door:
