1  Tech and Marketplace / I need help with my game! - Technical Discussion / Re: Coin Counter Clicking -- Black Screen on: September 20, 2018, 12:27:25 pm
To be honest, I'm not a technician, but it sounds like you may have a short somewhere.  In the arcade that I worked, that happened from time-to-time, and it was almost always a short.  Good luck!   Grin
2  Arcade and Pinball Discussions / Gameplay strategy and high-score discussions / My High Scores on: April 18, 2017, 12:34:20 am
Hello, fellow Video Game enthusiasts;

I used to list my high scores in my signature but I kept running out of characters to list the scores like I wanted so I figured I'd make a list in a topic here on the forums.

I play on my PC using MAME 0.146.  If I use the Pause button for any reason, the game ends right then.  There were no Pause buttons in the arcades.

While playing most games, I use the arrow keys as the joystick and the numpad Enter key as the 'Jump' or 'Shoot' button.
While playing Lunar Lander, I use the left and right arrows for rotation, the numpad Enter key for 'Thrust', and the numpad 0 key for 'Abort'.
While playing Tempest, I use the left and right arrows to move, the numpad Enter key for 'Fire', and the numpad 0 key for 'SuperZapper'.
While playing Tetris, I always start at Level 1, and (obviously) I use the arrow keys as the joystick and the numpad 0 key to rotate the piece.
While playing vs Super Mario Bros, I use the left, right and down keys to move, the numpad Enter key to jump, and the numpad 0 key to run / fire.

3  Other Stuff / Off Topic / Update: PC OS Re-install on: August 15, 2016, 03:47:54 pm
Geez, has it really been almost a year since I asked for help in the Thread 'Question about PC OS Re-install'?

OK.  So here's the update:

1.  I copied my 'must-not-lose' files onto a USB Flash Drive and then unplugged it from my computer.
2.  I exported my FireFox bookmarks to my Hard Drive and then e-mailed that HTML file to myself. (By the way, it worked perfectly!)   Grin
3.  I did a Full Install of Windows 7 Home Premium (64 bit) + Service Pack 1 including formatting the Hard Drive to ensure that all of the crap that's bogging down my computer is wiped completely before doing a Clean Install.
4.  I installed all of the drivers off of my Motherboard Utility DVD.
5.  I downloaded and installed my Norton's and made sure that I had the latest files updated.

Then the trouble began . . . (grumble)   Angry

The first thing that I did after #5 was to do the Windows Update.  I let it run for over 18 straight hours  and nothing happened.  The screen said that it was 'Checking for Updates'.

So I figured 'What the heck?' and tried to Upgrade for free to Windows 10.  It got to 'Installing Windows 10 . . . 99% Complete', and stayed like that for over 6 hours.  I let it run for a few more hours, but no luck.

So here are the problems:

A.  My Motherboard doesn't recognize my DELL Monitor.  I have the DELL driver Disk and I installed the driver, but the Device Manager still reads 'Standard VGA Graphics Adaptor', whatever that means . . .
B.  I used the 'Update Driver' in the Device Manager, and nothing happens.
C.  I can't even play Solitaire right now because it says 'Hardware Acceleration is either disabled or not supported by your video card driver, which could slow game performance.  Make sure you have the latest video card driver installed and that hardware acceleration is turned on.'  I do not have the video card installation disk.
D.  I downloaded and installed ARC and Champions Online.  When I try to play the game, an error message pops up reading 'Couldn't create D3D Device', and the game crashes.

If any of you kind people have any ideas on how to remedy any, some or all of these problems, please let me know.

Any and all help is greatly appreciated.

You got to Level 6 on Venture?!!   Shocked

Way to go!  I used to play that game a lot back in the 80s, and the furthest that I've gotten
is Level 3, I think, so I can't help you with your question, but keep trying!  You'll beat it!

In the meantime, I am impressed!  Smiley

Cool!  Thanks I dl'ed adwcleaner and ran it.  It cleared some of the crap up, but it looks like a re-install is in my future.  I'll have to go buy a USB stick first, I have a TON of Bookmarks that I don't want to lose.
8  Other Stuff / Off Topic / Question about PC OS Re-install on: September 07, 2015, 10:34:45 pm

Hi, folks!  It looks like I'm going to have to re-install Win 7 Home Premium on my PC because of some massive Adware and Spyware intrusions   Angry.  (My fully up-to-date Norton's says that there's nothing wrong, but what does it know?)   Huh?

My question:  Is there someplace that I can save all of my Internet Bookmarks so I don't lose them when I wipe my Hard Drive?  I only have 1 Hard Drive in this PC.

Any advice is greatly appreciated.

I think that it's either empty or has quarters and/or the Game Manual in it.

ARGH!

I just fell short of setting a new personal high score on DK.  I had 100,900 points (my current best is 104,200) and I'm on the L5 Cement Factory stage.  I climb the ladder to the upper conveyor belt (the one below where DK is), and all of the fireballs on the other side of the screen . . .

. . . and I get hit by a Cement tray (or whatever they called) at the bottom of the final ladder.  If I just wait for the tray to appear and jump over it, I'd have clear sailing up the ladder to a new high score.

I literally got up from my computer and walked around my apartment uttering profanities.  It was the only Mario that I lost in the entire game due my own stupidity.   Angry

* sigh *

Thanks buddy, I may of gotten it last night, but I made a couple dumb mistakes

Trust me.  I know what you mean by making dumb mistakes.  The last time I played, I lost 2 Marios on the very first board due to mind-numbing stupidity on my part.  I might be able to hit 150k if I stop making these silly mistakes.  Oh, well . . . Practice makes perfect.

Good luck!

I've been getting better at (recently broke 100k), but when I get to L4, the 'wild' barrels (or as I call them the MSB's (Mario-Seeking Barrels) on the Barrel screen) get me every time.  It doesn't matter how I move or swerve or backtrack.  It zeroes in on me like a Homing missile.

Is there a trick to dodge these bad boys?
