1  Tech and Marketplace / For Sale / Wanted / Re: Frogger Arcade Game, works great, all original. $650 on: November 01, 2017, 09:45:24 pm
I'm curious. That said, you really should put the general area you are from since few would want to ship an arcade game due to cost.
2  Other Stuff / Physical Media Vs. Digital Media / Re: Lets discuss Physical media vs Digital media. Let us know what prefer & why on: November 01, 2017, 06:29:34 pm
Definitely in the physical camp. I prefer to have something I can sell back if it sucks. Not to mention something I can still play in 20-30 years when they no longer have the servers up for PSN or Xbox Live because they wanted to change the backend (see the Original Xbox 1 for example) or if Sony, Nintendo or Microsoft just no longer do game consoles. It's the one reason I don't buy more PC games, I just want to have a backup for down the line, just in case.

It's why I love things like Limited Run where they put digital only games onto a disc or cart.
3  Tech and Marketplace / I need help with my game! - Technical Discussion / Centipede trackball replacement on: August 20, 2017, 02:40:31 am
So I'm looking around for new trackballs for my Centipede cocktail because the ones in it are scratched and very yellowed and it occurred to me that 2 1/4 is the same size as a pool ball. I figured this is probably a no brainer and you can use them just fine but I can not find anyone online discussing it(maybe it's such a no brainer that people don't even ask/discuss it).

Seeing as I'm a paranoid idiot I figured I'd ask some people, I mean maybe there's some kind of weight difference that I don't realize and it would actually be a bad idea so I'm throwing it out there... Anyone here replace 2 1/4 trackballs with cue or know for sure that they're basically the same thing?

Ooooooh candy cabs... You should post some pics sometime. Personally, I want to procure a Neo Geo candy someday, that's my holy grail.

Welcome and good luck with the Initial D.
6  Arcade and Pinball Discussions / Beginner's Help Corner / Re: How to best drill a lock? on: January 06, 2017, 07:12:03 pm
Thanks P-feif, mrdude, John and Homey244 for all the suggestions. Really looking forward to getting into these machines and using all the stuff I've learned from John's videos.  Grin
7  Arcade and Pinball Discussions / Beginner's Help Corner / How to best drill a lock? on: January 05, 2017, 09:47:31 pm
I picked up a handful of cabinets but a couple don't have keys or open doors. I'm looking for suggestions for how to drill a lock. Specifically, what kind of bit and if any drill will do or if something specific is required/recommended. Any tips would be appreciated.  Smiley
8  General Category / Introduce Yourself / Re: Hey everyone, Matt from Pennsylvania on: December 10, 2016, 08:21:35 am
NTMY Matt. I'm Jason from Pottsville. I have an Asteroids Deluxe, Galaga Cabaret, a Rad Mobile stand up, and a Dipsy Doodle pinball machine. The latter 3 I picked up at an arcade auction.
I also have a consolized MVS with 19 carts.

Sadly I don't know anyone (anymore, I used to know someone who worked on games when I was a kid in the 80s/90s) who can help you with your issues. I'm learning from John mostly and doing things on my own. Good luck with your Splatterhouse.

Jason from Pottsville PA here. NTMY all.

Any of you go to any of the local shows/games conventions?
I've gone to The Whiterose Game Show, Too Many Games, Replay FX and most recently the Mason-Dixon Arcade Auction in Gettysburg PA.

I'm hoping to get to Pinfest next year. Wish there was an easy way to learn about conventions/auctions/game shows but everything I've been to has been via word of mouth or a lucky Google search one day.
10  Arcade and Pinball Discussions / General Arcade and Video Game Discussions / Re: Transporting Arcade units, which kind of hand truck/dolly is best? on: November 08, 2016, 09:55:57 am
Thanks John and Blake, I appreciate the suggestions.
11  Arcade and Pinball Discussions / General Arcade and Video Game Discussions / Transporting Arcade units, which kind of hand truck/dolly is best? on: November 07, 2016, 07:41:52 am
I'm trying to decide which kind of hand truck would be best for moving arcade units. Looking at the different units I first thought the obvious would be an appliance hand truck (especially with the longer handles to grab onto), however it seems a bit narrow at the base part that would slide under the unit. There are other 'regular' hand trucks that can also hold 800/1000 lbs. They do seem to have a deeper base for the item to sit on and I wonder, would that would be better? I'm also not sure which type of tires would be better, the hard tires of the appliance hand truck or the larger tires of the inflated tires on the 'regular' hand truck. Obviously I realize in either case straps are a must.

What are everyone's suggestions/preferences? I noticed in John's garage he had both, so that didn't help me decide at all...

13  Arcade and Pinball Discussions / General Arcade and Video Game Discussions / Arcade auctions question... on: October 31, 2016, 12:50:32 am
So my introduction to John's Arcade was via youtube suggesting to me his 5-7-16 arcade auction video. I had no idea this sort of thing existed and I fell down a rabbit hole looking at videos of arcade auctions. In John's comments someone mentioned they'd love an arcade machine and he suggested keeping an eye on craigs list. So I just randomly decided to check and among the few arcade machines was an ad for an arcade auction in a few weeks near me. What luck! My wife (who scheduled off work for it) and I have plan to go, renting a truck in case we see something (if we don't, oh well). We're not looking for anything super specific gamewise though I'm probably hoping to grab a SF2 cabinet of some sort so I have a jamma system that I can (somewhat) easily swap boards in and out of.

What I'd like to know is, what would you folks suggest we keep an eye out for; tips, tricks, ways to tell possibly easy fixes, that sort of thing. I've already learned from watching someone else's video that you should bring an extension cord, just in case, to plug machines in. I'm super novice with any and all arcade stuff and wish to learn so ANY suggestions are welcome.

14  General Category / Introduce Yourself / Hello, new viewer and new forums member here. on: October 31, 2016, 12:39:14 am
I'm new to John's Arcade. I had Youtube suggest it to me, probably because I've been really getting into Neo Geo MVS collecting (for an Analogue consolized console my wife got me for Xmas) but I've loved every video I've watched so far. I joined here to ask a question of the community, but that's not an introduction. I'll post that elsewhere. I'm a huge games collector of console games and have only barely scratched the surface of Arcade stuff. Three years ago I bought an Asteroid Deluxe and haven't had any issues with it, luckily. I also bought my wife a virtual pinball table 2 years ago for Xmas.

Looking forward to chatting with you all.

Locke
