Ok I'll check with him. I've bought monitor cap kits from him, just wasn't sure if he handled the bigger stuff.

I've heard of the Double from Braze Technologies but I don't know of one that does all three. I wish there were just a 3-game board like that.  That would be the holy grail for my DKjr cabinet. I'm one of those weirdos who actually likes DK3.  Stan's the MAN!

3  Arcade and Pinball Discussions / Beginner's Help Corner / Re: Arcade marquee light fixture alternatives on: November 14, 2016, 01:39:01 pm
I just put one in my Spy Hunter (the lights of America one) and it works pretty good. I'd had it sitting on my parts shelf for several months. I was hoping to correct a noise issue in my Spy Hunter (which it didn't) by taking the existing light fixture out of the equation. But this new light does pretty good so I don't know that I'll even bother with trying to hunt down lamp starters and the other garb to make the original lights work again. I already invested 7 bucks in a fluorescent bulb for the old lights, but fortunately I thin the bulb will also work in the Lights of America fixture. I'm pretty sure I didn't buy my fixture at Wally World though.  I never shop there, so I'm betting I bought it at Home Despot (pun intended) or Lowe's.

4  Arcade and Pinball Discussions / Beginner's Help Corner / Re: Jammaboards.com are they still operating on: November 14, 2016, 01:28:27 pm
The last time I ordered from them (and by that, I mean the LAST time) I placed an order for the 19-in-1 pcb and it was two or three months before I got it.  As Iankellogg stated, I also got no response from requests for order status. In fact I gave up on ever getting my order, so I ordered another one from Holland Computer. Got that one right away.  Then a couple weeks after that, I finally got the one from Jammaboards. So now I have two 19-in-1s when I really only wanted one.
As a side note, I give the 19-in-1 a solid rating of "meh".  It's kind of like the 60...you're buying it for just a few good titles but there are a lot fewer good games. Plus there is a significant difference in volume level between games.
So if you have an opportunity to buy elsewhere I recommend doing so. I've bought from Holland Computer and FocusAttack and had no issues with customer service.
At one time I believe the owner or operator of Jammaboards was very ill, so that might be the issue again.

Bob's website says that he is not filling new orders right now, so what are some other options?

I am arguing with a Spy Hunter cabinet that has what I believe to be power supply and/or SSIO board issues, so my next step is to try replacing the big caps. I have two MCR power supplies and would like to try replacing the caps.

This is my second original cabinet and my first Bally Midway...realizing there is a lot to learn!!

Thanks everyone for taking a look at my post.

6  Arcade and Pinball Discussions / General Arcade and Video Game Discussions / Anyone with little kids?? Arcade hobby? How? on: May 25, 2016, 11:16:17 pm
The key word in this thread is "hobby".  I didn't look up the definition in Webster's, but my definition is that a hobby is something you do in your spare time. SPARE time, that is.  Unfortunately jtslade, at this particular point in time it doesn't sound like you have any of that. I work 45-50 hours a week (sometimes a bit more), have a wife and a 9-year-old son. There are a lot of weeks that between helping the wife with daily chores, spending time with my son, being involved with his activities, and spending quality time with my wife that there just isn't room in the schedule for much else. And it stinks, but it's life and I know at the end of it all I won't regret that time spent. I can't imagine working more hours and adding two more kids to the mix...I tip my hat to you, sir.

I am a night owl, so my "me time" usually comes after everyone else is fast asleep.  At times I've been guilty of making it more of a second job or a sleepless quest. It's really easy to get sucked in and spend all of your time on it.  I did that with my first MAME cabinet build, and it still took me a few months to get it done. I was one tired puppy by the time I got it finished, and it made me realize that I was so focused on getting it done that I wasn't having any fun by the end of it.  And a hobby is supposed to be fun. So if that happens to you, then it's time to put it on the back burner and recognize what is really important.

My wife and I had a lot of trouble getting pregnant and in the end we could only have the one child. We were older than most parents when we had him. I think it's a lot tougher when you are older because you've been accustomed to having a lot of personal time to do whatever you want. Then one day the kid comes along and boom that faucet gets shut off completely and immediately. You WILL get some freedom back in larger fractions as time goes on, and it will be sooner than you realize even if it doesn't seem that way now.

And no, you may not get to go to some of the events every time like you used to. Some things change completely when you have kids, but I think more likely what will happen is that you will eventually get to do those things again, and when you do then you will really enjoy and relish it.  Probably more so than you did before.

Hopefully as the kids get older, your whole family will get involved in the hobby on some level.  Working on the games, playing the games, what have you. Some of the best times I've had within the past couple of years have been hanging out in the garage with my son, our neighbors and their kids, trying to get the new high score on Pac or SMB or Galaga, listening to 80's music and reminiscing. To me these games are a time machine to warp us back to our younger days, even if it's just for a short while.
Things change, but that doesn't mean that the change won't bring fun times again. Hang in there!
And keep in mind that your children's childhood is a fleeting thing...it won't be too many years before they have friends and don't want to hang out with mom and dad all the time!

Just an update...Boulder Arcade Factory is making a new front grill panel and coin door panel at a reasonable price, so hopefully the front will be back to original spec. Or at least close enough to the untrained eye anyway!

Planning to laminate the entire cab in the Nevamar Fresh Papaya S8001 (the new front panels will already be laminated).  I know it's not 100% correct color, but at some point good enough is good enough. I just know that my painting skills are not keen enough to duplicate the original finish to a level that I'll be happy with. And I really don't want to spend weeks trying to get the paint right.
I also found a Sanyo monitor locally for a reasonable price that has minimal burn-in, so it looks like I'll be starting to disassemble this puppy in another couple of weeks or so!

I transported my DKJr on its side in my wife's Jeep Commander. Won't fit if it's on its back, but a perfect fit on its side. That's probably the max height and width it can handle though. Anything taller and wider than a Nintendo cabinet will probably not allow the rear hatch to close. At least, not without having the front seats moved way forward. Definitely no hope for transporting a Gauntlet cabinet in that one! Ha!

Good Luck to you sir! Looking forward to seeing your progress. This seems to be a lot like restoring a classic car, just on a smaller scale. Lots of research, parts can sometimes be difficult to find, etc. A fun hobby though. Cheers!

I work for a company that sells office furniture, and I can tell you that when I am moving a wood desk the liftgate truck is the only way to go. Desks turned on end are quite similar to an arcade cabinet in terms of footprint, being top-heavy, etc. Plus if you have no help (or not much help) the liftgate will save your back. But I'm sure they're not cheap to rent!  I would also think about how many you have and how you secure them. With a box truck you will have to make sure you have lashing straps or ratchet straps to secure to the sides of the box, unless you are really packing them in. In which case, congrats on a big score!

11  Arcade and Pinball Discussions / General Arcade and Video Game Discussions / Re: MAME vs 60 in 1 on: May 05, 2016, 11:34:35 pm
I've had a 60-in-1 in my space invaders homage cabinet for a couple of years, and the only thing it won't do is save high scores. Other than that it's actually been quite reliable and fun. I have been fairly impressed with the Pandora's Box 3 that I have, but it's better for the more modern games like Metal Slug and the Capcom fighting games. It's not so great with the emulation of the classics. I think the 60-in-1 is better for the classics.
To each his own though. I also have a mame cabinet running on a Mac mini and setup for 4 players. The front end isn't the best for macs though, so maybe that's why I don't like it as well as the multigame jamma pcb's.

Are all of the games you have the ones you really want? If not, then what about selling a couple (or whatever it took) to get the ones you really want? Seems like some of the guys with the really great arcades I've seen have done that. Easy for me to say, because I know personally it would be tough to do.  But if I could sell a couple of my machines to get, say, a Spy Hunter or a Paperboy...I'd do it in a heartbeat. That of course doesn't help you right now though. Got any good neighbors? One of my neighbors has one of my bartop cabinets, on semi-permanent loan.

x2 on Holland Computers. Good service and timely shipping although they might not always be the cheapest. I've ordered joysticks and parts from Ultimarc, and Andy is very speedy especially considering he is located across 'the pond'. I've gotten sticks from Groovy Game Gear and they are adequate but have a lot more slop in them than an authentic stick. My latest sticks are Seimitsu that I purchased from Focus Attack and I really like them. The shafts were a little short for my wood control panel, but my Galaga-and-MsPac-loving neighbors think they are the best sticks I've gotten so far.
I think you would be happy with the 60-in-1 board. Lots of great games and no they aren't 100% true to original, but only the uber-geeks like us will ever know the difference. Everyone else will think it's cool as hell.  I've had the 60-in-1 in my space invaders replica for a couple of years and everyone has enjoyed it.

Thanks for the vote, mrdude! I think I'm going to restore it as a DJR to keep it original and just keep the SMB board in it.  Maybe get the double DK board from mikes arcade to swap in when I want a change.

Well, as vwalbridge suspected the grill is not an original piece. Nor is the speaker.  Or the front panel!  Yikes. Although one of the previous owners gets points for using a period-correct Realistic speaker. Man, I haven't seen a Realistic speaker for many moons!  Also there seems to be something seriously wacky with the board connectors. What's up with all of the cut wires?
