31  Other Stuff / Off Topic / Re: Question about PC OS Re-install on: January 26, 2016, 07:28:06 pm
Regardless whether you reinstall or repair, you can have Firefox export your bookmarks as an HTML file.  Go to the Bookmarks Manager and do an Export under the File menu.  I'd e-mail yourself the file that it produces; most browsers can easily reimport it, and if worse comes to worse you can simply load he created page and click on a link.

I did the Firefox instructions from memory, so look around for things that kinda match the idea.  I hope this helps!

I'd be up for it!  I work nights, so I'd have to make arrangements, but that sounds good.

Never knew about that pinball museum...I must be slackin'...

Hey, what part of Michigan are you from?  Seems like a lot of us are joining Esqueleto as the JA Michigan contingent!

Ann Arbor has a pinball museum?

Could you be referring to Pinball Pete's (which also has a location in East Lansing)?  I've lived in and around Ann Arbor for a long time, and if they do have an actual pinball museum, I've somehow missed it all these years.

(please let A^2 have a pinball museum...)
35  Arcade and Pinball Discussions / General Arcade and Video Game Discussions / Re: battle tech pods to vectrex. who has been there on: January 05, 2016, 12:03:35 am
The Dave & Busters in Detroit had a BattleTech Center up until a few years ago.  I have seen three of them, and each time I was like "I don't have time now but I'm totally playing that when I get back!"  Yeah, never did.  Kicking myself nowadays.

Always thought the Vectrex was cool, but my family was light on money while I was growing up and I didn't actually get my Atari until about 82-83 when the prices were dropping, so the Vectrex was only a pipe dream for me.  Fantastic idea, and I'd still love to go back to '82 and surprise that short kid wearing glasses with one. ;)
36  Other Stuff / Off Topic / John's Arcade Drinking Game on: October 27, 2015, 02:42:09 am
I got one of my friends to start watching John's videos, and somehow the mention of a drinking game slipped into one of our discussions.  Long story short, here's my proposal for the John's Arcade Drinking Game.  Thanks for the videos, John!

---

John's Arcade Drinking Game
(bootleg, prototype version 1.0)

Take a drink if any of these happen:

John says "Hey guys, we are (somewhere)!"
John tells the story of how he got his cabinet
John changes games in his Nintendo red tent
John gives a safety talk about things like sanding, painting, etc.
Matt, Ian or Shawn first come on screen in an episode
The tumbler is used to clean parts
John gets a new game to work normally
Simple Green is used
John mentions that one of his basement games is down
John gets one of his broken basement games working again
Someone mentions how they don't like/want a multi-board
You hear a Kill Screens song
John rides his skateboard
John mentions Chicago
The camera battery dies and John points it out
Someone else is in the basement other than John
John shows a driving sequence at high speed
John discharges a monitor
John gets a new Neo Geo game
John uses a desoldering tool
You hear the Journey game play part of the chorus of "Separate Ways"
Someone mentions that original controls can't be simulated in Mame
We see the upstairs arcade
John uses his Atari computer
We see the power switches that turn on the arcade
John references a game that he sold
John plays a game from pressing Start to "Game Over"
John talks about applying T-molding
John talks about how much he hates applying control panel overlays
John talks about how long a video is running
John references KLOV (Killer List of Videogames)
John reprograms an EEPROM
John mentions an electronic part by specific type (CPU, transistor type, capacitor rating, etc.)
John gets a new cabinet
Someone references a previous arcade or tournament visit
Someone references "King of Kong"
John references laserdisc games
John uses Bondo
Someone gives gameplay tips
John drink alcohol
John swears and mentions that he shouldn't do that because kids are watching
John takes a trip to the hardware store
John keeps damaged game art because it has "character"
John shows an airplane/airport sequence
John plays a game that he says he's never played before

Finish your drink if:

John surprises us with a new game that he didn't announce previously (ie. seen in the garage, has a "surprise game" episode, etc.)
John is seen with no bracelets, watches or rings
You see someone wearing a "John's Arcade" t-shirt
You or someone you know's letter is read during "Viewer Mail"
The popcorn maker is used to actually pop popcorn
John finishes a multi-episode restore, but ONLY if John drinks too
John gives a safety tip after the fact

Feel free to add, delete or in general revise as you see fit.  And remember, no drinking and driving games!
37  General Category / Comments about John's videos and johnsarcade.com / I really love the Jump Bug cab, but... on: October 01, 2015, 03:22:29 am
...did I miss Gyruss leaving?

Gyruss, while not my favorite game, is the arcade machine that kept popping up in my "arcade formation" years, and when I think arcade games, Gyruss almost always pops up with the old standbys.  Thanks to Mike Cuddy back in the 90s, it was also my first "return" on the internet to the older days of the arcade.  I just saw that Jump Bug was there, Major Havoc and Paperboy were still there, but I can't see Gyruss.  I hope John still has it!

38  General Category / Introduce Yourself / Hello from Southern Michigan! on: October 01, 2015, 03:16:50 am
Hey guys!  My name's Mike, and I live just north of Toledo, Ohio.  I'm old enough to remember Pac-Man being a new game, but not enough for Space Invaders' entrance.  I bought a sit-down Space Harrier from a local arcade for $250 sometime in the mid-90s, and although I only had it for a few years (and I can't tell you how many times I tore that thing apart), it was my first inadvertent foray into owning arcade games.  It's been a real hit-and-miss thing for me; I used to have a walk-in closet full of console stuff that I gave to my brother when I moved in with my S.O. many moons ago, I once owned an original Gun Fight for about a year, and I've built one each of full-size, cabaret, bartop and cocktail MAME cabs for other people 'cause I love to build things.  So really more of a researcher and watcher than doer for this stuff (real life keeps getting in the way...).  Anyway, I'm finally building my own cocktail/standup convertible (I'll post pics somewhere when I finish it, but I spent almost 3 months designing it!).

I love watching John's Arcade because, honestly John, you're "John".  You're real right from the start - no made up online name or even a hint of pretentiousness.  You're relatable, you're enthusiastic, you let us in on the hobby in a "we" sense.  Simple things, but it sets you apart from other video game channels.  Keep up the real/really good work, please!

That's it in a nutshell...I'm just happy to be here!
