Welcome, man!  Make sure to let everyone know how your DK3 restore is going.  Don't be afraid to ask questions - there's a lot of Nintendo owners here, and there's bound to be someone who can help.
17  Arcade and Pinball Discussions / General Arcade and Video Game Discussions / Re: MDF VS. Ply VS. Particleboard? on: August 28, 2017, 01:04:26 pm
I've made four scratchbuilds so far - 3 plywood (Galaga-style cabaret, bartop, Robotron-style cabaret) and 1 MDF (LuSid-style deluxe upright).  I won't do an MDF one again - it took paint and filler horribly and chipped off in inconvenient places.  On my last build (Robotron-ish) I used 0.5in/13mm plywood, and although it's thinner than the 0.75in I usually use, it's very sturdy and easier to move, and as long as I'm not building a 4-player cab I'll use that again.

Although particleboard was used in some classic cabs, I would never use it in a scratchbuild.  I'm not going to have my personally-built cab be easily destroyed by a myriad of factors just because I used particleboard.

That's my two cents of personal experience.  Last piece of advice for this message is to use a fine-toothed saw when cutting - less chips.

In what way are you trying to make a power switch?  Are you trying to simply replace the original, or are you thinking of a more specific purpose (in-line switch, auto-on when plugged in, etc.)?  What is the specific problem that you're having with doing this - design, replacement parts, modding, something else?

Did you check your voltages on your power supply?  Something seems to be getting a little too much juice.

Could you do the egg, bacon, spam and sausage without the spam then?

If you're talking the equivalent of US$80 then oh yeah, I'd buy it for that price in an instant.  Much cheaper than the cabaret I've been building, and if it's working JAMMA, you're all set.

I'm coming up empty on this one.  I think I've seen the style of cabinet before, maybe once, here in the States, but I couldn't tell you anything else beyond that.  Maybe someone else here has more of a clue than I.

What's the brand name on the upper left of the control panel?  I can't quite make it out.

Also, what country is this in?  That can help narrow it down a bit.

Any other stickers, plates, or other identifying marks, even on the back?

Y'know, I love seeing these rare pieces still in action.  Especially an old Sega one - I'm an old-school Sega fan.  Something about the use of color in their games always caught my eye and made them stand out to me.  But posts like this show that the true depth of the hobby is going strong.  Thanks for posting this!

'Ey, welcome!

Nice to see another addition to the Michigan contingent!  We almost have a hockey team now!
26  Arcade and Pinball Discussions / General Arcade and Video Game Discussions / Adam's FPGA Pole Position Clone - Name Ideas? on: May 03, 2016, 01:04:39 am
I was watching the Jump Bug restore (for like the 4th time - damn night job...) and it reminded me that Adam was looking for names for his FPGA clone of Pole Position.  Since it will handle Pole Position and Pole Position II, my idea for the name is:

"Dual Position"

Unique enough to be its own, outright says it's for both games, similar enough that people will likely associate it with the original, and it sounds less risque than "Multi Position".

Thoughts?  Any other name ideas?

Seriously guys, now TWO people trying to save Space Fever?  So cool.

The two of you...your awesomeness knows no bounds.

I can only offer praise and encouragement, unfortunately.  But keep fighting the good fight!

Holy blastable bunkers, you have a genuine Space Fever?  You rock.  I dig all things Space Invader-y, and I love Space Fever's split convoys.  I think it's awesome that you're taking an obscure game like that and giving it some love.

Unfortunately I don't have a scan, or real artistic ability to recreate one, but I will definitely keep an eye out for one for you.  Something about this feels important.

Hey man, welcome!  You in the southern part of Michigan?  We have a Detroit-Ann Arbor kind of contingent going on.  Sorta.
