Title: Electronics Suppliers and Links
Post by: lojack on March 24, 2014, 01:02:30 pm
hi all

i was wondering if we could start a thread for electronic parts.  other than the typical cap kit.  for instance, if i need a cap thats not in the cap it or need a potenitometer, or resistor or diode, where do i go.  I would like this thread to contain info like that.    All respond with great links to sites with parts.

thanks
lojack

www.mouser.com the only place I ever buy stuff from. IMO mouser is far easer to use than digikey.
also www.greatplainselectronics.com for some other hard to get stuff mouser does not carry

If you know the exact part I have found that ebay is the way to go. It's not uncommon to buy resistors or caps or transistors for $1.00 or $2.00 for ten of them with shipping.

ebay is usually the cheapest but at a risk. A lot of IC's are pulls or counterfits. I use digikey because i am use to their naming and part system as well as their prices are usually a bit cheaper than mouser. Don't forgot if you are in a hurry digikey almost always ships out same day (even if you order at 5pm, no clue how they do it). If you need help finding something feel free to PM me.

I usually use mouser... Quality product and super fast shipping. Even if you choose economy shipping i think they 2nd day it. I use digikey when the item is on back order at mouser and vise versa. Cant go wrong either way

Digikey.com
Mouser.com
Ebay.com
Arcadecomponents.com
Those are pretty much the only places worth looking at for electronic parts. Connectors and cables as well as old chips are cheapest at ebay. Modern chips and passive components are best found at Digikey or mouser. Arcadecomponents is the last place I look since he is usually a bit more expensive.

I love having a place like this that stays open til 6pm that I can just drive to and shop.
If you ever get in a jam and need a part msg me and ill look for it when I hit that place up this week.
What I noticed was , well the store has a computer with internet on the show floor so people can look up parts they need.. monitor boards and stuff. well
what I noticed was ALOT of people that work on pinball machines come into that shop.  one guy I bumped into was shopping for parts for an old bally pinball
machine and patted me on the back because I told the dude at the counter I was trying to bring my donkey kong back to life and he overheard me.
He gave me his card. the guy behind the counter told me that pinball dude has been there for years buying pinball parts.
I wonder who the hell he is... Im tempted to call him. may open some doors for me.

Got to throw Marco Specialities for pinball machines for pins. Sometimes they carry the arcane "pinball specific" electronics parts that you need.
