John, you are considering building a gaming PC, as discussed on video game outsiders.  I wanted to show you the machine I built a few weeks ago.  Its an AMD A8 6600K 3.9 Ghz with an ASUS A88X-PRO motherboard.  If I were using it for gaming, all it needs is 1 or 2 high end video cards, here's the link.

Microcenter has great deals on motherboard and cpu combos especially for amd at $50 off they were $215 combined, i used a corsair case $70 and the corsair power supply $70. i put a $60 128GB SSD in there to speed things up and 8GB of Crucial memory, another $70.  Total for everything was about $485, and you get a very upgradeable system that beats the $500 Dell's out there IMHO.

I've built a few gaming computers over the years. Currently using a laptop for my current needs. Buy all my stuff through slickdeals.net. Paid about $900 for this a year ago. Doesn't play some games at ultra settings but definitely good enough for my standards.
