Title: What garage heater does John use?
Post by: offset on November 07, 2015, 01:26:07 pm
What garage heater did John use last winter?

I'm debating something to heat my garage for temporary bouts of insanity where needing to do some arcade repairs is the fix.

It's a propane heater I got at Tractor Supply.

I got the 60,000 BTU one. Takes about 30 minutes to get my garage over 70 degrees when it's in the 40s.

Thanks for the info.

I have one of these (see link below) for emergency heat for the house (safer for indoor use) and I can use small propane bottles if needed, but looking for something with a lot more btu's for garage work.

If you have a two car garage the 60,000 BTU one does a good job. They have a larger one too. I'd be curious how crazy the 125,000 BTU one would be. Would probably burn through a lot of propane. Right now, I use our Grill's propane tank and it's not uncommon to burn through the whole tank in a weekend if it's really cold out and I really need to warm up the garage for a couple of days.

I have a 3 car garage, but usually I'm just needing heat enough to take the bite out of the cold.   Might look at some type of heater that will burn kerosene/diesel (and old turkey fryer oil (I seem to collect a bunch of it every year at Thanksgiving (fried turkey))).   Not sure if a kerosene/diesel heater will burn old fryer oil as well.

Dad has one of those he got used at a yard sale, great little thing for taking the edge off the cold like you say.  It runs on kerosene.

Now, if you REALLY want to go big or go home they make huge ones that can heat an airplane hangar in sub-zero weather with the door open.  Heh.  Don't sit anything within a few feet of it, you'll set the whole place ablaze.

Wow!  Anything that requires a trailer is getting serious!
