Well I waited a few weeks for our host to approve my addition to the forum ranks. Fair to say he's a busy man-

-Must take months to windex all that cabinet glass. :p

All joking aside, your collection is impressive. Your among an exclusive group on the net that's practically a museum curator of vintage gaming. You ever meet that dude that has an arcade in a farm?

I've enjoyed your vids and I'm digging the whole 'What once was three cabs in the garage are now Legion in the basement'

By the way; Your 'In the basement' opening video statement-

Did you know that in racing terminology that means your race car is busted up? LOL.

Each vid I wonder if you've crashed another car....

Ha! Thanks for joining. sorry it took me so long to approve you. I have to admit that I have been busy and haven't been able to log in here. Sorry!

Howdy all. Just joined your forum ranks and fresh off the proverbial banana in Arcade collecting/gaming.

Brace yourself-

This is a MAME related question-

I have a pair of cabs recently fitted (no mutilations could re-fit with pcb's in a jiffy) and I'd like to light the wee LEDS in same.

A few side considerations;

1. I don't feel comfortable powering them through the same power source of the computers.
2. I don't have LED WIZ
3. I don't have the I-Pac cap/num connectors to power them off the Ipac board.

What I'm asking for basically is a refresher in basic high school electronics.
I'd like to power the LED's in the coin boxes off a linked power cord that would simply plug into the power bar inside the cabs.

Any suggestions?

I've tried a 5 volt adapter and it was a brief light show then dark.

...help?

you need to get 5v or 12v to the coin door depending on the cab and the bulb requirements. If you have a switching power supply you can this voltage from that. Otherwise, you need to tap in somewhere else.

I ended up getting an ep-1140 microsystems.  I don't know how to take a code off an old chip and match it to the new file yet.  Do you know how that is done?  So far it has worked fine.

On mine, I load the good code into my software then compare or verify it to the code on the chip in the burner.

Trying to figure out what is wrong with my monitor tried to degauss it, nothing. Thought it might be the guns but someone else told me no.

any idea? here is a quick video.

THat looks like a convergence issue. You should google how to fix convergence on an arcade monitor. It's a little tricky.
1910  Nintendo Talk / NINTENDO VS. FORUM / Re: Tetris questions - colors, free play, high score on: May 09, 2011, 09:14:36 pm
I forgot to add other than using burned chips I am using the 001 chip off a Hogan's Alley.

I put up a video of TETRIS. Not sure what the colors are supposed to look like. Sounds like your roms might be messed up if the scores are jumbled. Did you verify them?
1911  Nintendo Talk / NINTENDO VS. FORUM / Re: nintendo vs joystick on: May 09, 2011, 09:13:42 pm
my controller for my vs uni system is pretty jack up is there any way to fix it or i have to get a new one ? javascript:void(0);

These joysticks are very easy to fix. Just take it apart and clean it. It's all metal and rarely is it work out to the point that it can't be fixed. Clean it and lube the little ball the shaft goes in with some silicon. I clean my sticks with electrical contact cleaner. It seems to remove the grime pretty well.

Thanks for the info.  I don't have the 60 in 1 card, but I am sure the adjustment is probably similar for the 23 in 1 card.

Yeah, you need to get into the service menu which is activated with a dipswitch setting!
1915  Tech and Marketplace / For Sale / Wanted / Re: Wish List on: May 09, 2011, 09:10:07 pm
I'm looking for Popeye - Bagman - Qbert - Pole Position - upright - Motor race USA - Krull - Wacko - Baby Pacman - moon patrol

That's a pretty good wishlist! Not familiar with Motor Race. What is it?
1916  Tech and Marketplace / For Sale / Wanted / Re: Countertop bar video games on: May 09, 2011, 09:09:38 pm
Would like to purchase a countertop bar video game like you see in the bars and John's arcade.  What is a good brand to buy and what do they cost used?  Someone has a megatouch xl platinum listed for $400.  Thanks

MEGATOUCH is the standard by far. Try to get something in the "FORCE" series. These can be upgraded all the way up to FORCE 2011. Force 2011 is the last Force update. After that, they are doing something new. So, these should come down in price soon. The CRT versions of the FORCE are much cheaper than the LCD versions but they can't play all the games. A small handful of games only play on the LCD version and not on the CRT version but it's far from a dealbreaker..
1917  Nintendo Talk / NINTENDO VS. FORUM / Re: Burning Roms on: May 09, 2011, 09:07:55 pm
You can use the MAME roms. I use an Needhams EMP-10 to burn my ROMs. It is old school. It uses a serial connection and runs under DOS. You can buy a newer USB burner on Ebay from China for about $50. These work ok but the quality is not that great. You also need an EPROM eraser to erase the old roms.

I think I should make a video about this. No?
1918  Arcade and Pinball Discussions / General Arcade and Video Game Discussions / Re: Computer Space on: April 16, 2011, 02:02:40 pm
Hey John i found a Computer space on my delivery rt and talk the old boy into selling it to me for 60 and it's the rare Yellow one. I got with some local collectors and they want it and they going to trade me moon patrol for it. what do you think. The Computer space cab looks to be in good condition but i'm sure it doesn't work and i lack of know how to fixing it.  And these are the same guys i'm trying to get them to use my time teach me how to fix these great old machines. The guy also keep eye out for Popeye for me.  He Ask me if i wanted a really nice Defender for it last night but i was more of a Moon Patrol fan.  Defenders ok. Plus he let me look at some cabs for a project machine he has and he's giving me the cab for free. I sure thank you for the advice of try to meet local collectors it looks like it going to be good move.

BigKev, I would say that Computer Space is worth much more than a Moon Patrol. I think the best thing for you is to sell it on Ebay. That way you'll get the correct market value. Be careful! Sounds like you have a cool machine.

Yo, man! Thanks for joining the site.

Those multicade boards had a few versions along the way. The current is 60 in 1. Maybe there was a 23 in 1 at one time? Not sure. Seems odd, I agree. Smiley
