31  Arcade and Pinball Discussions / General Pinball Discussions / bulb and starter question on: September 12, 2014, 11:43:55 pm
Hi guys,

Really simple question but maybe I'm over thinking it. Where can I find a bulb and starter for a pac man light fixture?

You could send an email to Todd Tuckey over at tntamusements.com. He sells old working power supplies out of all the games he sells and lets the original power supplies go for cheap. If he didn't have one, you could ask him to sell you whatever replacement they use.

I want one too. Mine didn't come with one either. Begs the question, why were so many pulled out and lost?

Todd is going to have a video up soon regarding an audio mod that replaces the tape player.
38  Nintendo Talk / NINTENDO VS. FORUM / Re: VS. Super Mario Bros HUM on: June 24, 2014, 09:26:56 pm
To add to what John said, recap or replace the video board. Don't forget to have some thermal transfer paste on hand. They usually don't include that in the audio board cap kits.

Also, replace the power cord if the ground prong is missing or the cord is frayed in any way (safety first) and replace the ac line filter. (Bob Roberts has those)

Those things should reduce the hum. A little hum is considered original/authentic.

Tighe has experimented with ferrite bead chokes to reduce or eliminate the hum with varying levels of success. Might check with him or his videos on that.

An original Sanyo must count for something, right. In the offer it says the monitor has a red tint. But I hope that could be worked out.
Man, I am still unsure whether this cab in this condition is worth the money.

You said you were in europe and they were hard to find. Based on that I'd get it. It sounded like you won't have to pay shipping since it's near you. I don't know if you clicked on the arrow to see the second batch of pictures but yeah, the sanyo is in there, intact. The red tint is no big . You throw in a cap kit, new flyback, and then you set the b+ voltage and do the sub contrast pot adjustment and color balance - 99% chance it will look good as hell.

Hey John, thanks for the quick response! The price of that cab would be little above 470 dollars right now, which seems steep compared to your 50 dollar steal Smiley
But also pricey considering I would need to get the DK jr PCB, marquee, control panel, side art etc. as well.

Can you say something about the monitor? Could that still be an original Nintendo?

No doubt about it, that is a sanyo ez 20 in there. The power supply has been replaced but that's not a big to replace. The back door is even intact, so that is a plus. For some reason Nintendo cabs state side often seem to be missing back doors. It's easy to make a new one, but still, annoying.

Wow, a DVD can only hold 240 minutes. This is gonna be pricey.

Have you considered using one of Amazon's programs and doing the self publishing on demand thing through them?

Second that, man. Trash the RFI filter board and check your fuses with a multi meter. Do that then report back!!

I think you are over complicating it. Go pick up the cheap fluorescent fixture from wal-mart. I got several of them when they were on sale for 7 dollars each last month. Cut the plug off and screw it into the 120v terminals, done.
