1  Tech and Marketplace / I need help with my game! - Technical Discussion / Capacitor Identification on: March 14, 2019, 02:09:30 am
Hey gang, I've got a mysterious aluminum capacitor which I'm fairly confident I know what it's saying, but a little reinforcement wouldn't hurt!  I'd rather not fry my Triforce.  It reads (from top to bottom) "100 / 16A / 6BN ."  Pretty sure this is a 100uF 16V capacitor, but that A makes me nervous.  Think I'm right?

That's a weird coin door, if you poke around inside the cabinet you might find a serial number or something with a clue to what it was originally.

Or, this is more general, do you know any way to artificially lengthen a button press?  I could wire the service button to the coin switch, but the button press from a coin flying through there isn't long enough to register a service credit.  Resistors maybe?

If you're removing the monitor you're going to have to discharge it and risk shocking yourself anyway, so I'd try to fix the thing while you're in there.  You can order a capacitor kit from Bob Roberts, maybe a new flyback too if that looks cracked.  I'm a novice myself and I've been trying to do the same with an old electrohome, it's kinda a fun challenge.  I'd bet your current power supply would be fine for a new PCB, but you might want to replace it with a modern switching power supply depending on the state of the old one.  Looks like 60-in-1s needs 5V and 12V.  Does anyone know if he should disconnect the isolation transformer if he does end up using an LCD monitor?  Seems like there would be no purpose for it.

Hey gang, this has been driving me nuts for a couple weeks so I thought I'd see if you have any advice.  I have a Namco Mario Kart Arcade GP2 cabinet (very cool game, by the way, you can race as a Tamagotchi?) whose coin acceptor was disabled at some point.  I'd like to set it on coin play, but I get the feeling something's missing.  I can get it to coin up just fine in JAMMA test mode so I know I have the correct wires, but in actual game mode it will only coin up intermittently, almost at random.  From my research I figure it either has something to to with a JVS converter or possibly the brand of coin mech called a MEI Cashflow.  I bought a Cashflow just in case, but I feel like it's a dead end.  Anyone ever had this sort of problem with a Namco cabinet before?  Sounds like it can happen with Naomi cabinets too, but I've never read about anyone finding a solution.

I didn't grab the smaller cabinets I thought I'd get, but I ended up renting a 16 foot Penske truck to move some big racing style cabinets.  That size of truck has a ramp built into the back, so it wasn't too bad pushing them on up there.  It was actually a much smoother ride than the Uhauls I've had in the past, and I was able to rent it as a business so it was considerably cheaper.  I'll probably use em again!

Great advice, thanks a lot!  Definitely gives me some good options to consider.

Has anyone rented a vehicle specifically to move cabinets?  I'm thinking of going to an arcade auction and I'd like to be prepared if I find more than one game.  I know one would fit fine lying down in a rent-a-car truck or white van, but has anyone here moved more than one without damaging them?

Ah, could be video poker, sometimes they don't have marquees like this thing.

Hi all, I was browsing craigslist and came across this weird Mr. Do.  Anyone know what this cabinet was originally?  I'm curious if it would be worth converting back to... whatever it was.  Or is this some Mr Do's Castle variant or something?  I've tried asking for more pictures, but the poster hasn't responded.
