Good question. Let me know when you find out. Same predicament.

I tried to rebuild this monitor myself. It's the second monitor I've tried to tackle. The first was a WG 4900 in my Ms Pacman and other than the red tones are a little week (tube is just shot) it came out great and works well. So this time was my Space Invaders black and white monitor WG 19V1001. It was having a little trouble with the image fading and it was starting to get some screen curl. Here's what I did...….

I replaced the caps on the deflection board, and the large cap can on the chassis (4 caps in the large can). The monitor ran for about 5 to 10 minutes with a scrambled rolling image. I started to do the set up to adjust all the pots on the deflection board, first up was the B+. Measured at 66 volts, it's supposed to be 73. I tweaked the voltage pot the smallest amount I could and one of the replacements for the can capacitor (it was either cap B or cap C) exploded. I took it back apart and found that the top of the cap was blown open and one of the resistors under the chassis was black in color. Yep I did it good. So here's the question. I really don't want to give up on my Space Invaders game and this has obviously gone beyond my ability. Does anyone know someone who knows how to work on a WG 19v1001 black and white monitor and who would be willing to tackle my mistake? So far the few arcade repair shops near me have said that it's too old and they no longer work on them. Seriously I need help.

For some reason the YouTube link is malformed. This should work:

JAMMA Custom Arcade Project (JCAP)

JCAP is a project with the goal of developing a JAMMA arcade standard compatible game board using the Parallax Propeller 1 (P8X32A) microcontroller upon which a user can implement their own custom arcade game, either from scratch or by using the library of graphics, sound, input, and other drivers developed under the project. Ultimately, the project will provide:
  • VGA video driver
  • Sprite/tile based graphics driver
  • PWM sound driver
  • Serialized input driver
  • Game engine
  • PCB schematic and CAD files

in such a way that a user has everything they need to implement their own arcade game and have a PCB printed to build it on.

A more detailed description can be found in the JCAP readme.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Here you can see the current (breadboarded) circuit laydown. It includes the dual P8X32As in the center, with the serialized input system to the East, and the VGA DAC in the Northwest:

This is the power system including AC EMI filter, switching arcade PSU, audio amp, and +5V/+12V/GND distribution blocks:

Here's a simple demo, showcasing movement, rotating color palette animations, sprite animations, and parallax scrolling.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The project is being managed via GitHub, and can be found here.

A progress log/wiki is constantly being updated, and contains a lot of background information that some might find very interesting such as a brief history of arcade games and an analysis of historical video formats:

Currently, JCAP is on pause as a custom IDE is being developed to manage graphical assets...

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

JCAP Integrated Development Environment (JIDE)

JIDE is a project developed alongside JCAP in order to provide a graphics development application which can integrate with the JCAP framework. This utility features:

  • A cross-platform compatible, PyQt-based GUI
  • Unique environments for developing tiles, sprites, and tile maps
  • A portable, human-readable JSON-based file format for easy portability and sharing
  • An extensive list of intuitive graphcics development tools and features
  • Pixel-perfect graphics precision
  • Integration with JCAP, including programming the system directly via dual serial connection

This portion of the project is the current focus, as neglecting to develop an IDE would ultimately require hand-jamming hex matrices to create graphics assets in memory.

Features are being added daily, and it's expected to be completed in the next month or two.

Hello ArcadePeeps,

Any ideas of what's going on with my Tron Arcade Stand Up? Turn it on and see a bland white screen or mixture of white and black "Tetris Blocks"

So far:
Replaced with Suzo Happ Switching PS
Cleaned and checked fuses/Continuity
Checked Voltage on Power Supply (5.023)

Next?  Anybody seen this before?

I miss Johns vids also. I hope we get a video again even if it’s just a short one to say Hi or  what he’s been up to I know he does not owe us anything I hope he’s safe and well with everything going on .
That sounds nice. I know there’s VGO, so we know he’s well, just for the youtube crowd.

I'm sure John will post video's when he's ready. He's got a life like the rest of us and he needs to do what he needs to do.

Although I'm craving a new video too. Just saying....  Grin
