I cracked 600,000 when I was 12 years old... I struggle with the game now.  Sad

This was an awesome video!!

The owner of Underground Retrocade is a great guy, and really wants to make the games as real and authentic as possible. I guess I never noticed the mismatched coin doors and such and, for the most part, the games in the era I really like (80-82) at least had original controls and typically original cabinets. He also just moved into the new space after their old location was flooded out... so much of his recent efforts have been focused on keeping the existing stock of games running.

Watching John restore games in an OCD type fashion is really cool to see, and I can really appreciate how much effort that requires after hearing the amount of effort it takes our local arcades just to keep games running! Shocked

Hey John, I just wanted to let you know that the video of your Gyruss restore was intriguing and I really enjoyed it. It will be fun watching you turn complete crap into a diamond! Smiley

I think you meant Fun Spot.

I loved John's video of FunSpot and comparison to growing up in Chicago and going to Wisconsin! Smiley

My family is actually considering a trip to that area this summer and see Fun Spot for ourselves. I really appreciate John's video of the place but was extremely concerned with ZOO KEEPER being MIA!!

John.. please tell me they have a working Zoo Keeper!!!  Cry

HA! My 8 year old twin daughters love Minecraft!  Grin

I am feeling the next leap on Zoo Keeper coming. On Levels 4 and above, I now feel completely in control of the direction of the animals.

I have also ordered the new X-Arcade control panel so that should help over my beaten handheld PC controller.

That joystick setup should help much. Zoo keeper plays pretty well in mame. Have fun!

The X-Arcade joystick doesn't seem to be very Zoo Keeper friendly... I occasionally freeze around the corners... broken 1 million this weekend but still have not broken the 1.4 million mark set four months ago!  Cry

I got the joystick stationery with the new cabinet, but I have had a setback on Zoo Keeper. I am now hovering around the 800K to 1 million mark. I don't think it is the new stick but rather my approach. I am trying to be too perfect on the game. including trying to monger too many points on the early rounds. I keep seeing people get high scores on the game playing conservatively so I should be able to make that same approach work. Sad

Having a real live Baby Pac-Man would rock!! Nice find!

I got a cabinet but it was a new one designed to hold the X-Arcade Tankstick (through Rec Room Masters). I figure this was ideal for someone like me who had enough discretionary dollars to pony up the $450 for the cabinet with the backlit marquee and have the classic games available in my home yet did not result in a cannibalization of those truly classic cabs out there. Plus, I still have several retro arcades within one hour from my house so I can still get the real retro gaming experience away from home.

Maybe I get to a point in my life when I am motivated to have multiple original cabs in my own home, but now is not the time. In the meantime, I'll just visit the local Chicago retro arcades and regularly watch John's You Tube video of his basement!  Grin

Sweet! An original Defender game is da bomb!

Zoo Keeper is great in MAME with the new X-Arcade joystick... except that the joystick slides on the little table I set it on then Zeke stalls because I end up moving the stick at the wrong angle. I need to figure out how to keep this thing stationery. Yes... need to build my own cabinet!

Berzerk and Frenzy work great on the stick also... can execute the angle fire much more easily than in the arcade.

Defender and Stargate... I need work on remembering the buttons but the default buttons are pretty well aligned with the original arcade games.

Frogger sucks... because the stick has pull back so a hard move results in the frog bouncing back in the opposite direction.

The track ball is awesome for Centipede and Millipede.. but bad for Crystal Castles unless I am willing to change the mouse pointer speed each time I play it.

Overall, a great purchase... and my daughters love it and they are pushing hard to have it put in a cabinet which I think needs to be the X-Arcade cabinet or something built from scratch. They can play two player Rampage for hours!

Nevertheless, I still plan on playing these games at the local retro arcades because there is still nothing like playing the original games in the original cabinets using the original controllers! Smiley

How about the memories of your favorite arcade back in the day. The name, what games it had, the environment, and where it was. Did they use tokens? Did they have tournaments? Was the owner an asshole?  Tongue

It obviously didn't last very long either. Probably from October 1981 to June 1982.  Grin
