1  Tech and Marketplace / I need help with my game! - Technical Discussion / Re: Star Wars Trilogy upright question. on: November 14, 2014, 11:01:14 am
Well after having my friend help me check the voltages last night, I found out the game was not getting enough power to boot up properly. My four arcade cabinets are hooked up to a single power strip in my garage which only has one power outlet. Once I unplugged the other games, my cabinet booted up just fine and played like a charm.

Now I just need to figure out how to get more power to my garage to make sure all my games play properly and to future proof it when I get more cabinets. It really is all about the voltages.

USE THE FORCE
that's how I get extra power to my games.

Awesome VertexGuy. Truly awesome. Lol! May the force be with you all and our games!

Thanks so much Otaku! I sincerely appreciate it my friend! I will keep you posted after I check the voltages this weekend. I'm keeping my fingers crossed it's just a fuse. It was crazy when it stopped working. I just finished working on my new Gauntlet Legends cabinet and plugged it in for the first time. When I turned it on it worked great but then I looked over and my cabinet stopped working. Bad timing! Thanks again!

Hi there, what do you mean by power on the game to see the picture? The monitor and game boards both should be on at the same time and if your monitor is on when you plug it in and let's say when you hit a switch the board comes on, it's not necessarily supposed to be that way, I'm a bit confused about that statement. Have you checked voltages on the power supply and on the board as well?

Hi Otaku, thanks so much for your response! Sorry for any confusion. Both the the game and the monitor would come on at the same time. But I had to turn it off and on again a few times just to finally get the game to boot up with a picture and sound. Once it was working, it played great. Now everytime I turn it on the game has no sound and just this white screen.

I'm going to pick up a multimeter today, but I just realized I have no keys to the back of the cabinet. I need to drill that out and replace it with another cam lock. Man I hope my board isn't toast! Thanks again!

Hi everyone,

I'm new to the arcade collecting hobby and my wife recently got me a Trilogy Arcade upright cabinet for our 10 year anniversary after years of me begging her. I have only had the cabinet for a couple of months when I started to notice that I had to power on the game a couple of times to get the monitor to display the picture. After that the game worked perfectly. A couple of days ago when I went to turn it on, the game did not boot up at all and now just has a solid white screen on the monitor. No picture, just a white screen. Is there anything I do to try and fix it? At 39, I also have Parkinson's disease so I'm a bit limited on how much I can do with my hands. I still am able to change fuses and do other small things when my meds are working. I hope it's nothing major and I'm really bummed that it has happened to my personal Sega holy grail after only having it for a couple of months. It's my fourth cabinet, but my favorite one for sentimental reasons.

I sincerely appreciate any advice you could give me. John, Shawn, Joe, and the rest of the Arcade Outsiders are the reason why I got into this hobby. Thanks so much for your time!

Sincerely,

Christopher Cribbs (Coffee)

Thanks for the feedback guys. John I agree, I think Stargate is the harder game now. Still it's the cabinet in my collection that seems to get the most play from all of my family and friends. They always remark how iconic those sounds are in that game. For me they rank right up there with Robotron.

RushDude, you sound like a awesome player my friend. I agree about the Firebomber Showdowns. Those kick my ass everytime, even with plenty of inviso. Do you use the Hyperspace button much? I never do. Everytime I use it, I'm instantly killed from running into an enemy right when I reappear. So frustrating. Some players I know swear by it though.

Hi Guys,

I just wanted to get my fellow collector's opinons on this. Which game out of the Defender series is more difficult, Defender or Stargate?

I have been playing them both on a Stargate cab at home and I have always thought Defender was the harder game growing up, but now I'm changing my tune. Stargate just keeps kicking my ass. Still fun as hell though. Nothing like watching a awesome Defender player tear up a game. That is just pure skill.

Thanks for your thoughts!

*Sorry for posting this in the wrong thread! My bad!

Hi John,

I just wanted to second what Verminator said. Awesome videos and great job. I think those Gyruss cabs are bad ass!

Today I played Stargate (Defender 2) on the my original cabinet I picked up over the weekend. I forgot how hard that game is. I was in the hospital the past couple of weeks and couldn't wait to get out of there to pick that game up. So worth the wait.

I hope everyone here had a great weekend as well!

Thanks for the great welcomes guys!

Sorry to not have gotten back to everyone right away. I've been stuck in hospital all week with sinusitis.

Can't wait to get out of here and back to gaming! Enjoy the Super Bowl!

Thanks for the advice John. I'm going to get there a couple of hours early to preview what pins and cabinets they are selling. Hopefully they will let me look at the insides of the games. I was reading a book called Trading Spaces about arcade game collecting and read about a guy buying a cabinet for quite a bit during a auction. When he started to load it into the truck, he found out the cabinet was completely empty. That's a bad day.

This newbie will try to be as careful as I can. Hopefully I will not make the same mistakes and find a couple of jems in the few hundred games they are selling. I'll let you know.

Those Red Tents are so bad ass! I remember playing those as a kid. I haven't seen one in years. Seeing John's video of his brought a tear to my eye.

Super Mario Bros. is still a fantastic game. I was hooked on that game and Popeye for a long time.

Hi everyone,

Being new to our hobby, I was wondering how you felt about arcade auctions and if there are any tips I should know before walking into one.

My wife has giving me the okay to get another cabinet and there is a place that does arcade auctions every weekend less than a hour away. I thought it would be cool to check one out and maybe score a nice . Will I be able to inspect and play the games? Or will I just be taking a gamble and hope the game works or not?

I appreciate your input and thanks so much!  Grin

Thanks John!

Great to hear from you and thanks so much for the great site!

Funny you should say that my Street Fighter 2 CE will not be my last cabinet. I'm already eyeing a and a Baby Pac Man nearby. I have to decide on just one at the moment to keep things cool with my wife. I want to introduce her to this hobby slowly.

is still my favorite game of all time and still brings me my first gaming memories as a kid. It's amazing how a game can invoke such strong feelings.

Baby Pac Man is just super rare and the only time I ever got to play it was at California Extreme. It was super cool, but definately the hardest pac man game I've ever played. I'm also worried about the upkeep on that game too. John, I keep watching your videos of it and just drool. Hopefully I'll make that decision soon! Thanks again and I'll try to get some picks up soon. I'm also working on my garage to give it that arcade look and feel.

Welcome Marti!

That's a great collection of games there! Those Street Fighter 2 rainbow boards are crazy fun to play. I love me some and Burgetime as well.

I hope you are well and looking forward to your posts around here!
