Well I am saying check to make sure the harness has power. I highly suspect it is a power supply issue.

I am not personally familiar with the Vs but I can try to give you some general tips. There is usually a breaker or fuse in or near the power supply. I would start by taking a multimeter and just checking to see if the board has power (you can do this by checking the 5V->GND and 12V->GND off the edge connector). If no power, check for a fuse/breaker. If there is power you are going to be getting much deeper into the board.

When i first read the title I though this had to do with the magazine at first! Have you just tried just checking all the connections. It sounds like your monitor is fine (maybe). Any other Rom's/Boards available to test?

It seems a bit rough around the edges and I am pretty sure it came from the run down arcade from 10 years ago. Dodgey place that allowed smoking and had carton vending machines that teens would buy.

There is a posting in town for a 4 player upright vs machine. I have only seen one of these before on John's grinker's tour video so I know nothing about them. I have never seen one up for sale on anything before and was wondering what the rareity of these machines were. The price isn't too bad but I have a feeling this machine was from a very old and run down arcade from 10 years ago.

Been doing tons of research and doing my best to understand the really old schematics for the neo geo. For my issue it is most likely not an audio cap issue. I may still do an audio cap kit just since the ma chine is 20 years old.

From what I can tell the issue is most likely a YM2610 chip issue. All 4 slots and all 4 games have the same issue with the audio, music and coin/menu sounds work but nothing else does. From what I can figure, the chip is bad and the ADPCM sounds are not coming through. I might pull the board out again and probe it to make sure it isn't one of the mux chips. Thought I would post this to maybe help someone else someday.

awesome setup. At least with the gamebox you will have  some variety.

Yeah from my research it seems to be caps. Interesting part is that baseball stars works perfectly in it. Everything else is either without sound or music only.

im going to fix it up and leave it as original as possible. I am considering putting a jamma switcher in it until i can move out of my small apartment and pick up more cabs. I really love this machine and I have some projects cooking up in my mind for things to upgrade on it. Those damn EL panels are all shot and $20 a panel right now is a bit much after buying the unit this month. Might be able to do a nice replacement PCB for the lights to use LED's instead.

Got a full album of the machine finally in my place.

So I got my first arcade machine and it's a neo geo 4 slot. Unit is in pretty decent condition with a beautiful monitor and working audio... Kindof. The audio works just fine during boot and all game music works for all 4 games I have. But certain audio effects don't work in the game. For example, samurai shodown plays the music but none of the fighting sound effects play. Anyone thoughts?

ill have photos this week once i get it into my house and cleaned up. It came with 4 pretty bad games so I am planning on getting the multicart while i collect the games i want. I was doing some research into doing some type of jamma switcher mode and putting my mame PC in there.

Hi everybody,
I decided to join the forums now that I am a new first time owner this week. I picked up a neo geo 4 slot this week for an okay price but I am excited none the less. Thanks to John for his awesome videos I finally feel like it isn't as scary of a hobby as I once thought. I'm an electrical engineer and always knew I could fix those parts but I was always worried about the cabinets. After watching his restore videos I feel like I know enough now to dive in.

EDIT: Figured I would say where i'm from! Enjoying your awesome videos from Centre PA.
