31  Tech and Marketplace / I need help with my game! - Technical Discussion / Re: Street Fighter 2 monitor issues on: October 29, 2013, 10:17:19 am
sparks shooting out, man that sounds really bad i assure you that is not normal Cheesy

are there any monitor/tv repair around you? maybe you will have some luck speaking with them for identifying and for parts.

please post pics of your cabinet! i love street fighter 2. i have a sf2 champion edition

in a HS-5 dynamo cab. cabinet has the serial number for sf2, as well as instruction manual and dynamo cabinet instruction manual.
The Marquee looks as though someone got beat one to many times from M.Bison and hit their breaking point . I am pleased to have this machine, it was my absolute favorite game in an arcade.

could be cold solder, or caps try reflow first cap kit is never a bad idea too. worst case the CRT is going bad
There's a black box on the chassis with a dial on it and it has a crack, sparks are shooting out of it which is causing it to flicker. Any idea what that is?

That's the flyback!! Turn the game off and replace it immediately. What type of monitor is it?
Zenith? 25"
i had it turned on while looking at the back and sparks are shooting out of the crack and every time a spark shoots out the game flickers..i have turned it off unplugged it. here are some pics.

i cannot seem to find out what kind of chassis this is,.

That black box sounds like the flyback. it will need to be replaced. It's an easy fix if you buy the right one for your monitor and you observe proper safety precautions.
All you need is to know the model number of your monitor and then just start looking online, most flybacks can still be found easily.

I probably don't have to tell you not to keep running your game until you repair it.
Broken flybacks can be very dangerous to people or electronics nearby.
know anyone who has replaced a flyback in a HS-Dynamo cabinet.

Hey, just bought a Street Fighter 2: Turbo Hyper Fighting. The one issue is the monitor flickers. What could this be?
36  Tech and Marketplace / I need help with my game! - Technical Discussion / Re: PCB Problems! (Donkey Kong and VS. Super Mario Bros.) on: October 06, 2013, 01:59:56 pm
I really cannot figure out why the machine behaves this way. VS. SUPER MARIO BROS

1. In One player mode i can use either the 1 player or the 2 player controls, no problem everything works, left. right, up, down, b ,a

2. In 2 player mode Mario is controlled by the 2nd player controls(right side) and he is locked out on the left(left control panel). everything works.

HOWEVER Luigi plays on the left side control panel and again the right side of the control panel(mario) is locked up. All works on the left side but the "Down".

How is this possible, when in 1 player mode everything works?? It's frustrating because i really would liek to get 2 player mode working where Luigi can acually duck and go down tubes!

Someone please help!!! Undecided

Fair enough, I'm kind of cheap that way so I'm not your target audience XD.
I am cheap too. But if you own arcade machines, it would be an excellent resource. Also by paying John for his efforts and time he puts in to this DVD you are contributing to more projects like this down the road.

Reality is there are only a finite of machines and parts out there. By educating yourself on how to preserve, restore and repair them by using these resources it allows these arcades to have a longer life span.

It is worth noting that most people aren't going to pay for a dvd they can get on youtube for free. That's my opinion though and I just thought I'd politely share. Smiley

Of course I realize that. But I like collecting and having things like this. I have bought a lot of arcade DVDs. I like 'em. Thought others might too.
if it was high quality and multiple arcade restores on the DVD. Heck yah

I am proud to report is now fully working, seems I had a bad rom set. Seller shipped out new one at his expense. I've installed it and now no more issues.

As for SmB I will try reconnecting everything and see what happens.

PCB
Issues: Once i get to the 3rd rivet stage(the one after the pie factory) Mario automatically dies as if it were the kill screen. i'll lose the man board will start again and then he automatically dies, untill it's game over. Tried this again and it repeated exact same stage.

VS. Super Mario Bros.
Issues: Luigi will not go down tubes or duck? The left side of the control panel is the 2nd player? Pretty weird not sure what i should do here. When i pop 2 credits in, hit player 2 start. Mario is controlled from the right control panel, once he dies the left control panel will control luigi however pressing down on the joystick does not get registered in the game??

Any ideas?

The DK issue is really odd. I have never heard of anything like that before. I'd look at voltages and maybe try reseating roms or do other simple things first.

On your Vs. Super Mario it sounds like your joystick is having issues. Look at the connections and make sure the switch is good for down.

most interesting thing to note. if i go one player on the VS. SMB. Left control panel will control Mario and the down works!!!!? this is really weird. for some reason only in 2 player mode the down does not work?
