I've did a bit of digging but unsure if I am looking in the right place or not. I am attempting to put a in line resistor in my CRT discharging tool. Any ideas on the type or size? Thanks guys, Doc

I have to do this for a B/W monitor soon.  From what I've read, 1 mega ohm (3-5 watt) is the ideal resistance.  I think it would be a standard axial style, but I'll let someone more knowledgable confirm.

Smack the monitor with a small hammer before you discharge it.

Appreciate it the info Aeolus. Ill try to do some more digging. Maybe call a tv repair guy in my area and see if he has any suggestions. Ill report back any new info

I can't remember exactly what I did but it was like 5 250K resistors in series then shrink wrapped.

Shit I just ordered 5 1m ohm 5w resistors . I have some 250k but they are .75w

You're fine -- The benefit of the big resistor is you only use 1 in line...  Better to have too much.  BTW, you may not hear the "pop" with this method.  Proceed with caution.

Copy that. Ill be sure to hit I a few times before proceeding. What also sucks is I'm dealing with a flat lay down monitor on this particular one with a mirror so the anode cup and most adjustment are in a horrible spot and very difficult to get too. A perfect monitor for a first timer . Wish me luck. I might try to pull it out of the cab before moving on
