1  Other Stuff / Off Topic / How to eliminate sound interference? (Car Radio AUX) on: October 29, 2018, 08:23:44 pm
Well I finally got my first car registered to me! A 1975 Dodge D100 pickup. The first thing I wanted to do was fix up my radio so I could listen to music from my phone through the speakers. I had one of those cassette adapters, which worked fine but only if you could jiggle it just right and not hit any bumps in the road. So I put in an AUX jack, wired straight to the board where the cassette head leads. It works, but if my phone is turned up any louder than 2, the sound becomes very loud and distorted and if I plug my CD player into it, the motor from that causes loud staticy interference.

I think I might need to add something to stop it, but I'm not fully sure what... I opened the cassette adapter to see what it had, but there's nothing in it but wires going straight to the head. Does the head act like a diode (making the signal one way)? Or do I need capacitors or resistors and what value?

This is my radio by the way, if that helps any.

2  Tech and Marketplace / I need help with my game! - Technical Discussion / 30mm ball tops? on: November 03, 2017, 12:11:12 am
I'm trying to find out where I can get some red and black 30mm ball tops with 5mm threads.

I got these on ebay but they're lopsided and are about 60% scuffed in a ring around the middle.

Mike's arcade has black ones, but no red ones and I don't know what size threads they have.

Also,
The I was looking at had demo sounds and no in-game music. I've never seen that before, is it a bootleg, dip switch setting, or a sound issue?

So, REVISED SCHEMATIC

And with this switcher,

Would I still need the Jpac? This switcher has Video/Audio in, or does that only go to the VGA/Audio out on the other side and not JAMMA out?

I am planning to get a from a bar downtown and to make room for it I want to give the MAME cocktail table I built to my cousin. But I like the idea of having a MAME machine.

Obviously I wouldn't gut a real for that, so I want to make a mod that can be switched to at any time and easily removed to return the cabinet to normal. I have a lot of experience in tinkering. I can solder and build parts, but I don't want to go into this blind so I'm hoping someone can look over my schematic to see if it's right and most importantly safe. I'd like to know if and where I need to add fuses, diodes, resistors, ect.

Past couple of years I've been getting into arcade games. Saw John on youtube and I love seeing the same enthusiasm in classic games! My first arcade game was a cocktail table at a Baskin Robins my grandpa used to take us to.

I got around to building my own table running MAME which I'm super proud of, and now I'm trying to get my hands on a cabinet to start a small collection. John and his videos really gave me the inspiration to get one!
