Title: rebuilding a nintendo joystick
Post by: iankellogg on January 05, 2014, 05:50:19 pm
I have some work to do on my punch out and one of those things is the joystick. I can not get this thing fully apart. The Ball knob is completely stuck on the shaft and I can't figure a way to get the shaft out with the ball and spring stopper on. Any advice?

There is an e-clip on the bottom. Remove it. Don't take the ball off the shaft if there is a set screw. No need to mess with that.

Should look similar to this - you want to remove part 23-23 - ignore that arrow pointing at the restrictor. It was an image I found on the net.

I can't get the spring stopper off and the two plates are spot welded together.

Did you just yank the joystick out?!?! Remove the e-clip and yank the stick off. The rest should be easy to get out.

Yep, e-clip is off. The spring was super brittle and just fell apart coming out. The spring stopper is completely stuck. The knob on top is really stuck.
